Wada- a beautiful district of Maharashtra-full of greenery & rivers, all around. But inside it, lie many schools which have no chemist shops around to buy napkins in emergency period cycles. Also disposal of such napkins have a problem-as pickup vans may not reach the interiors regularly.
One such school Kasturba Gandhi nested 150 girls , which were enrolled from nearby village & field workers, orphans included.
Mr. Gautam Jha & Mrs. Sudha Jha & family runs -THE GREATER GOOD projects, in USA & realized the importance of Period Hygiene in these areas.
Together with BLISSFUL WOMEN as vendor partners, their SHAKTI FOUNDATION donated 4 sanitary napkin vending machines & 4 used napkin disposal machines. Now the hostel & school will not face the trouble of these issues forever.
Blissful Women helped the Shakti foundation from initializing the project, by accompanying them to the area -which took 4 hours of one way journey, washroom surveys, installation, delivery & also demo & conducting menstrual Hygiene seminars. A wonderful program was arranged by Ms. Kirti Thorat -Principal mam, & children of Kasturba Vidyalaya .We thank her & full school for the warm welcome.
We are still touched by Ms. Sudha mam's, kind gesture & salute her patriotic thoughts to help Indian Villages, even after settling in USA. We urge more & more NGOS & CSRS to come forward & join such missions to change the face of menstrual hygiene completely in rural India.
